Who’s Really Responsible For Your Stress ?

By Ahsan

Have you ever stopped and asked yourself a slightly uncomfortable question:

Is the stress in my life really caused by what’s happening… or by how I’m thinking about it?

It’s a confronting idea. Most of us instinctively blame our stress on external pressures—work deadlines, financial concerns, general worries, loss of a loved one, health issues, or difficult relationships. It feels obvious: life happens, and stress follows.

But what if that’s only half the story?

Over 1,900 years ago, the philosopher Epictetus suggested something radical:

“People are not disturbed by things, but by the views they take of them.”

At the time, it may have sounded like philosophy. Today, modern medicine quietly supports the same conclusion.

Dr. G. Canby Robinson of Johns Hopkins Hospital once observed that the majority of patients he treated were suffering from conditions influenced—sometimes heavily—by emotional stress.

Even when physical illness was present, it was often tied to how individuals were coping with life’s challenges.

Over time, many of these conditions traced back not just to events, but to a person’s internal response to those events.

Centuries earlier, French philosopher Michel de Montaigne captured this idea in a simple but powerful way:

“A person is not hurt so much by what happens as by their opinion of what happens.”

That distinction changes everything.

Because if stress were caused solely by external events, then everyone facing the same situation would experience the same level of stress.

But they don’t.

Some people remain calm under pressure, while others feel overwhelmed by the very same circumstances.

The difference lies in interpretation.

This is where personal responsibility—and freedom—quietly enter the conversation.

If our thoughts shape our stress, then we are not entirely at the mercy of our circumstances. We have influence. We have a choice.

Now, this doesn’t mean stress can be eliminated with a snap of the fingers.

When life hits hard, it’s natural to feel shaken. But it does mean that our mental response is not fixed.

With awareness and practice, it can be adjusted.

And that is the part most people overlook.

The real leverage point is not always changing the situation—it’s learning how to change the way we see it.

That may require effort. It may feel unnatural at first. But the principle itself is simple: when you change your interpretation, you begin to change your experience.

Your feelings come from your thinking, regardless of who you are.

So point yourself to this phenomenon of personal thinking.

The question then becomes not “Why is this happening to me?” but “How am I choosing to see this—and is there another way to see it?”

That shift, small as it seems, is where stress begins to loosen its grip.

The Things That Don’t Change

By Shazad

“Change is the only constant in life.”

Heraclitus

Our world is full of dramatic and sometimes revolutionary changes. Things are transforming in months or weeks, and sometimes in days. It feels like everything is open to new developments or new perspectives on the same old things. It can be exciting as well as stressful, whether you are an aging worker at a company facing an uncertain future or a new graduate about to enter a difficult job market with skills that may not be as relevant as when you started your education. The good news is that some things never change, and that’s where you can build a solid foundation.

I’ve been researching which skills will be most valuable this year and in the years to come. I’m not surprised to see AI literacy on the list. What surprised me was the old-fashioned human skills that many experts still predict will be desirable and even differentiating. They include communication in both verbal and written forms, social skills for building and maintaining relationships, and decision-making skills for leading the people you work with. These can be thought of as timeless skills, regardless of which technology is dominant in the world. The reality of our lives is that we have to and actually enjoy being in dialogue with other human beings… most of the time. With that in mind, it makes sense that these 3 core abilities, which define some of the best of what humanity has achieved, are valuable today and beyond.

Communication skills cannot be overstated. Without the ability to think, express, and share our ideas in multiple ways, we begin to decline and suffer as human beings. It’s a key part of our existence to communicate facts, stories, and wisdom over our entire lives. We might as well become experts at it and keep refining our abilities like an artist.

Social skills are the next factor that will not change as long as humans are around. We need to be able to build rapport, maintain relationships, have meaningful discussions, and persuade people. Building trust and having real credentials are key parts of this. Knowing how to collaborate with other people and understand their point of view is also vital to being a person who is valued by others.

Decision-making and taking action are the 3rd key skill that will never be replaced. The ability to make decisive choices and act is essential to any leadership role and to social progress. It simply is not an option to outsource our ability to make critical decisions and then be happy with the results. Humans have a strong need now and always for freedom of choice. Mundane or trivial matters can be handed over to other people or even to an AI tool, but significant life choices must remain in our hands and be based on sound judgement and wisdom.

Now that you know what human skills are important today and what will always be important in the future, you can confidently develop yourself further using this info. Your ability to face and adapt to change will always matter, but so will your skills in core human abilities that help you make the most of today and beyond.

Choose Your Own Adventure

By Shazad

“The purpose of life is to live it, to taste experience to the utmost, to reach out eagerly and without fear for newer and richer experience.”

Eleanor Roosevelt

When I was a teenager, I came across these amazing books that took the reader on multiple paths, depending on the choices they made at critical points in the story. If something didn’t work out well, the reader could explore an alternative and see how it turned out. Our lives are the same way. There are so many decisions we have to make and possible paths we could take. Many people’s lives are a winding, confusing, and truly fascinating adventure filled with dreams, sweat, difficult choices, and unexpected but positive outcomes.

With the exception of some fatal mistakes, many of our choices allow us to try something else if we take a wrong turn or end up somewhere we didn’t want to be. Some opportunities in life do have a short window, but many have a wide margin of error. For example, if you order an appetizer you don’t like, you can order another one. If you get your hair cut or styled in a way that doesn’t work, you can wait about a month for it to grow back and try something else next time. Even a bad grade on a single school assignment doesn’t mean automatic failure. You could try harder for the rest of the semester and do very well on the final exam. Ask yourself what the worst-case scenario is for each of your choices. If it’s not certain death/disability, complete bankruptcy, becoming homeless, or jail time, you can probably recover without too much time or effort. Every time we make a choice, we have to be prepared for some outcome. It may be desirable and what we were looking for, or it may be totally wrong for us. We often have a chance to make a different choice right away or a while later.

The person who didn’t graduate from university in their 20s may return as a new 40+ student and finish their bachelor’s degree, or even pursue a PhD. The person who married young and divorced by 29 may find a deeper connection around age 40, leading to an enduring marriage. Perhaps you are a 50-something with chronic health issues, and you finally decide to do something about it, resulting in the best health of your life all the way to the end.

Time is precious and should not be squandered trying to undo a bunch of bad decisions in life. A responsible person recognizes that their time here is limited and uncertain, so wisdom and courage in decision-making are essential. However, it’s rarely “too late” to choose differently or try again. We can’t intentionally delay decisions, but we should also consider whether we can simply choose again. Many people finish their education, start a business, and find true love later in life, and remain happy as a result. The biggest regret is staying stuck in a moment when you could have made another choice and moved towards a better path, but didn't.

Every day you are alive is a chance to do so!

What new and better decisions will you make today, and where will your adventure take you?

How Much Time Do You Have?

By Ahsan

“Time and tide wait for no man.”

English Proverb

Time neither slows nor pauses. It moves forward without consultation, indifferent to our wishes, plans, or illusions of control.

The ocean’s tide offers a useful metaphor. It rolls in, revealing a brief window—an opportunity to step forward, explore, and act. And then, just as quietly, it recedes. That window closes. Sometimes gradually, sometimes faster than we expect.

I often find myself thinking about the things I love—simple pleasures, meaningful work, hobbies such as playing golf with my high school buddy, and time with family and friends.

These are the moments that give life its richness. And yet, woven into that appreciation is a quiet truth: this life, as beautiful as it is, will not last forever.

That realization is both sobering and clarifying.

I wish I had understood this earlier—not as an abstract idea, but as something real. Perhaps I would have paused more often, not just for the milestones, but for the small, fleeting moments that make up a life: a conversation, a laugh, a quiet morning.

As the years pass, awareness sharpens. You begin to see time not as endless, but as precious.

Finite.

When we are young, the horizon seems distant. We live as though time is abundant, as though “later” is guaranteed. But that belief is, in many ways, an illusion.

With age comes clarity—not just about time, but about meaning. You begin to understand what truly matters. What “this or that” really is. And more importantly, what is worth more of your time?

It is then that a subtle shift occurs: from assuming there is time… to recognizing there may not be as much as we think.

We each live within Three overlapping dimensions:

  1. Lifespan is the length of our lives—unknown but finite. Perhaps 80, 90, or even 100 years. But not 200.

  2. Healthspan is the quality of those years—the ability to live independently, move freely, and engage fully. To rise from bed on your own, make your morning tea, visit a friend, and participate in life rather than observe it.

  3. And then there is wealthspan—the capacity to fund the life you want to live. Not merely to survive, but to experience, to travel, to give, to choose.

The alignment of these three—lifespan, healthspan, and wealthspan—shapes the true experience of your life!

Too often, we delay. We postpone decisions that would improve our health, defer plans that would enrich our lives, and neglect the financial clarity that would grant us freedom later.

But delay is not neutral. It is a choice.

Time is passing regardless.

So the question is not simply how much time you have—but how you will use the time that remains.

Take a moment today. Reflect honestly.

What would you do more of if you knew your time was limited?

What have you been putting off that deserves your attention now?

What steps can you take—today—to better align your lifespan, your healthspan, and your wealthspan?

Because the tide will not wait.

And neither should you.

Make the call. Take the trip. Have the conversation. Invest in your health. Clarify your finances. Prioritize what matters most.

Not someday.

Do You Believe in Fate?

By Shazad

“Accept the things to which fate binds you, and love the people with whom fate brings you together,

but do so with all your heart.”

Marcus Aurelius

There is an ancient Chinese story about a red thread of fate. It is invisible and connects people destined to meet. This thread is tied at birth, linking two individuals together, and it means their lives will intersect at some point as friends, mentors, collaborators, or soulmates. The red thread doesn’t care about timing, geography, or anything else. The red thread will stretch and may tangle, but it will never break. The lesson of the story, in my opinion, is to trust the path. The “right people” that you need to find will come your way, and it won’t be because you were a great detective or mystery hunter. It’s because you and that other person were always intended to meet. So what will you do when you find that other person or a number of people who come across your path?

To me, this story is very interesting but incomplete without inviting the listener to consider what they will do when that other person shows up in their life. If we passively watch and move on with our lives, we haven’t recognized the special gift of connection that is appearing. If we take other people for granted and stop reflecting on what our meeting could result in, we waste the chance to do something Awesome with them!

Many people will come into your life and mine. Some will be just passing through, like people on a train station platform. No real connection, on a journey to somewhere else. A few magical people will stop and actually look at you. They may just smile or offer a kind word. Others may give you some assistance or a piece of wisdom. There will be some very key people, such as a teacher, a grandparent, or a neighbour, who recognize your potential and hidden talents. They will share something with you that sparks a flame that burns brighter and brighter over time, until you are a shining beacon of light that inspires others. You become that kind of person for one or more other people. The pattern repeats in a forward-moving spiral.

Sometimes it’s obvious who that special connection is that you were meant to find. A best friend, a business partner, or a future spouse to spend your life with. Other times, it’s a subtler, quieter connection that develops over time. We need to keep our senses alert and hearts open to the possibility that everyone who takes the time to engage with us and have a conversation could be one of those people that fate has sent to us. We have a connection with them, and our job is to figure out what that is. Where is our journey taking us, and what are we supposed to learn from this other person and vice versa?

When you consider all the people in your life special and important in some way, you take care to be present with them and express genuine kindness for having them in your life. Whether or not you believe in fate or destiny, you can have Awesome experiences and human transformation by treating other people with respect, compassion, and curiosity. What does this other person have to teach you about work, school, relationships, or life? Trying to genuinely understand others and being open to the possibility that they are here to make your life journey better in some way makes you a more connected person. Good human relationships are what this life is all about. It is our destiny!

How To Find Your Inner Wisdom

By Ahsan

“Within you lies a quiet wisdom that already knows the way.”

Life brings challenges to all of us—some small and manageable, others that feel overwhelming and uncertain. In those heavier moments, it’s natural to wonder what to do next or where to turn for guidance.

And yet, think about this: there are times when, out of nowhere, clarity arrives. A fresh idea. A simple next step. A sense of calm certainty. It just appears, unforced.

So what’s really happening?

Could it be that there is a deeper intelligence within you—a built-in guide—that naturally shows up when you need it most?

Let’s call it your “Guide Inside.”

From the perspective of real-life experience, this isn’t luck.

It points to something fundamental. Each of us is equipped with the innate capacities of Mind, Consciousness, and Thought.

Through these, we experience life—and through them, insight and wisdom become available.

But here’s the key: wisdom doesn’t emerge from overthinking. In fact, the more we try to force solutions, the more clouded things can feel.

Clarity tends to arrive in quieter moments.

When you step back…

When you relax your grip on the problem…

When your mind settles, even just a little…

That’s when insight has space to surface.

What you may begin to notice is that your “guide within” isn’t something you need to create or chase. It’s already there.

It’s part of the Deeper Intelligence that animates life itself (God)—an intelligence that flows through you as naturally as your next breath.

You don’t need to figure everything out. You simply need to understand that wisdom is available—and allow it.

The more you trust this, the more you’ll experience a shift: from pressure to ease, from confusion to clarity, from striving to quiet confidence.

So the next time you feel stuck, try something different.

Pause.

Step away.

Let your mind settle.

And then notice what begins to emerge.

Your next step may already be finding its way to you.

Trust it.

Now, give yourself the space today—even for a few moments—to slow down and listen. See what your inner wisdom has been waiting to show you.

Giving to Get

By Shazad

“For as these were made to perform a particular function, and, by performing it according to their own constitution, gain in full what is due to them, so likewise, a human being is formed by nature to benefit others, and, when he has performed some benevolent action or accomplished anything else that contributes to the common good, he has done what he was constituted for, and has what is properly his.”

Marcus Aurelius, Meditations, 9.42

It’s so easy to be selfish and focus on our personal needs, wants, and desires. The world practically rewards people for thinking about themselves, and we are suffering because of it. It’s as if someone turned society into the “Me-conomy,” and everything has to be centred on individuals. No wonder we are unhappy, broke, and lonely.

We have forgotten our purpose as members of society, citizens, and human beings in a global village. When we work together and help one another, we feel better about ourselves. In my experience, when I am struggling, I try to find someone else to help in a small way. I feel better as a result. I often receive prayers or appreciation from that person, but that’s not the point. I just know that making someone else’s life a little better makes the world a little better. I like that feeling and want to see more of it.

Whenever I am stuck or feel like giving up, I try to find ways to donate money, call a friend, or give someone else a useful item. It could be a physical object or a tool. It may also be timely advice and wisdom from my experiences. Whatever it is, I try to share it and make someone else’s experience of this journey a little happier.

Make a plan now to help someone else. What knowledge or item do you have that you could give to someone in need? What assistance can you offer, or what service can you perform that will improve the world around you? Look around. There is always something that can be done and someone you can help.

Don’t ask for anything in return except good vibes. Notice how you feel after you do this. This is what Awesome feels like.

How To Make An Ordinary Day Extremely Worthwhile

By Ahsan

“Life can only be understood backwards, but it must be lived forwards.”

Søren Kierkegaard

Daniel woke up determined. His to-do list was clear, organized, and realistic—at least it seemed that way in the quiet of the morning. But by 10 a.m., the first unexpected email arrived. By noon, a quick “five-minute task” turned into an hour. Lunch was skipped. The afternoon blurred into calls, interruptions, and small fires that somehow felt urgent but unplanned.

By the time evening came, Daniel sat on his couch, exhausted, staring at his untouched list. “What did I even do today?” he wondered. The day felt like a loss—unproductive, scattered, and disappointing.

And yet, Daniel’s day was far from empty.

If you’re looking for one simple habit that can quietly transform your life, it’s this: reflection.

Most people already try to do the right things. They set goals, organize their priorities, and take action. But when the day doesn’t go as planned—and many days don’t—it’s easy to feel like nothing meaningful was accomplished.

Life has a way of interrupting even the best intentions. You start with focus, but then something pulls you away. You adapt, respond, adjust, and before you know it, the day is gone. What remains is often a vague sense of frustration rather than a clear understanding of what actually happened.

This is where reflection changes everything.

At the end of your day, take a few minutes—just a few—to pause and look back. Not to judge, but to notice.

Ask yourself:

  • What did I actually do today?

  • What mattered, even if it wasn’t planned?

  • Where did I show up well?

You may be surprised by what you find.

That “unproductive” day may have included helping a colleague, solving a problem no one else could, or simply showing patience in a difficult moment. You may not have completed everything on your list, but you likely moved something forward—often in ways that don’t immediately register.

Without reflection, those moments disappear. With reflection, they become evidence that your day had value.

This small habit also shifts your mindset. Instead of measuring your day only by what didn’t happen, you begin to see what did. You create a more balanced, honest narrative—one that includes effort, adaptability, and small wins.

You can deepen this practice by adding a layer of gratitude. Think of one or two things that went well, or even something unexpected that carried a hidden benefit. Over time, this trains your mind to recognize meaning amid chaos.

Because the truth is, no day goes exactly as planned. And yet, every day holds something worthwhile.

There’s a simple wisdom in the phrase someone once shared when asked how their day was going:

“Not exactly as I hoped—but it’s still a good day above the grass.”

That perspective doesn’t ignore challenges—it places them in context.

We are here, for a limited time, doing what we can with what each day brings. If we rush through our days only noticing what went wrong, it won’t take long before discouragement becomes the default.

But if we pause—just briefly—and reflect, we reconnect with what’s real, what’s good, and what’s enough.

Just set an alarm reminder in the evening. Give yourself five minutes. That’s all it takes to turn an ordinary day into something meaningful.

And over time, you may find that your days weren’t as ordinary as they seemed.

They were simply unnoticed.

I hope tomorrow feels extraordinary—not because everything goes perfectly, but because you take the time to see it clearly.

What You Are Responsible For

By Shazad

"Take responsibility for your work, your results, and your growth. No one else will."

Jack Canfield

There are many things going on in the world, and it’s easy to blame ourselves for not doing something about it, speaking up, or changing the situation. The truth is, many things are not up to us, and we cannot actually make the required changes by ourselves. So what do we do? What is our responsibility in life?

We are accountable for what we do and how we respond. The word responsibility can be defined as the state or fact of having a duty to deal with something or to exercise control over someone.

The reality is that we have a duty to ourselves and are responsible for our behaviour at the end of the day, not what someone else says or does, and not something happening 100s or 1000s of miles away. We owe it to ourselves and to our fellow human beings to behave well, no matter what the external situation is. We have to raise our hands and say, I can do my part about some things in my life.

It’s very easy to say and even write, but very difficult to actually do. Day after day. Week after week, for the rest of your life. Perhaps that’s the whole point. To realize we have responsibilities, not just freedoms and comfort. The latter joys of life are made possible because we recognize and carry out our duty each day as responsible human beings.

We can ignore, reject, or even hide from those things within our circle of influence because they are uncomfortable or challenging. Doing so makes us more responsible for the outcomes that occur when we do not carry out our duties.

By ignoring our health, we become ill and, over time, a burden to our family. We also contribute to the healthcare crisis across nations and around the world. This illustrates how we can either ignore issues or play our part in preventing them from getting worse. A similar case can be made for how we handle our finances, education, and cleanliness around our home and property. We cannot fix the economy, solve the problems in schools, or address climate change single-handedly, but we can avoid making things worse in the short run. Through consistent, positive efforts on our part, we will realize benefits in our personal lives and, ultimately, see improvements in the world.

Being a good human being today or at any point in time requires a clear and honest understanding of where our responsibilities lie. Mature and wise people realize that their lives revolve around their duties to themselves and their responsibilities to others, even to the natural world around them. There is no escaping our links to each other and all living things. While many things are out of our control and always will be, a few things are actually up to us. Let’s remember that and carry on with the best of efforts and intentions. Raise your hand and do your part today.

All of Your Success Depends on Two Concepts

By Ahsan

One rainy morning in 1955, a young man named Ray Kroc walked into a small California hamburger stand and noticed something unusual — a line of customers that seemed never to end. The place ran like clockwork, every burger made with precision and speed. Kroc saw more than a restaurant. He saw a dream systematized — a vision that could change how America ate.

That single observation, coupled with his relentless consistency, turned an ordinary drive-in into one of the most successful businesses on earth. From one small dream and consistent daily effort, McDonald’s was born.

This article is for those who see life as a gift — a chance to stretch, grow, and test the limits of their potential.

Take a moment and think back over the past year. Did you achieve the goals that mattered most? And if not, what held you back? Was it a lack of discipline, motivation, or perhaps the quiet comfort of postponing your dreams for “someday”?

Langston Hughes once asked, “What happens to a dream deferred?” It dries up, he said, like a raisin in the sun.

Life should never be a field of forgotten plans and faded promises. The good news? You can change course today by embracing two life-changing concepts — the very pillars of success and renewal.

Concept #1: Dreams Keep You Alive

“You become old and defeated when dreams are replaced with regrets.”

Every worthwhile achievement begins as a dream — a picture of what could be. Dreams energize the spirit, stir creativity, and give purpose to your days. When people stop dreaming, they start deteriorating. Stay curious, stay motivated, stay “juicy.”

Don’t worry if your dream feels too big or distant. Its purpose is not to comfort you, but to pull you forward.

Concept #2: Consistency Turns Dreams into Reality

“Circumstances don’t decide your future — choices do.”

And the most powerful of those choices is consistency.

Success doesn’t come in waves of motivation; it comes from steady drops of disciplined action. You build health one workout at a time. You build wealth one client at a time. You build mastery one disciplined hour at a time.

Like pressure on coal turning it into a diamond, your consistent actions turn invisible potential into visible results.

Your Two-Concept Success Framework

1. Dream with clarity. Ask: What do I really want to become, create, or experience?

2. Act with consistency. Ask: What one small action can I take today — and repeat tomorrow — that moves me closer to that dream?

If you live by these two, failure becomes temporary, and progress becomes inevitable.

Let’s walk forward as lifelong dreamers and daily doers.

Action Plan Template: Turn Concepts into Motion

Here’s a simple template you can reuse each month:

Step 1: Define Your Dream

- My desired outcome is: __________

- Why it matters to me: __________

Step 2: Identify Your Key Daily Actions**

- Daily behaviors that align with my dream: __________

Step 3: Set a Consistency System**

- My daily tracking method (journal, calendar, app): __________

- My weekly review check-in day/time: __________

Step 4: Adjust and Recommit**

- What went right this week: __________

- What needs refining next week: __________

The dream gives you aim. Consistency gives you momentum. Together — they give you an awesome life!

Commit To a Mission

By Shazad

It’s amazing how many people are just coasting through life. They wake up, do the same things, often mindlessly, get tired, and go to sleep. Rinse and repeat. No wonder people are so stressed, depressed, and feeling lost these days. I sincerely believe we need a mission or a greater purpose in life—something that defines the reason we get up in the morning, an ikigai, if you will. This is the only way people can find lasting meaning and joy in life.

Beyond just a generic purpose like ‘serving my family,’ we need clarity on WHY we are serving, along with the WHO. We need crystal clarity on HOW we serve each day. It can be small tasks or big achievements. The point is that we need to be sincere and certain about our intentions.

Every human being feels better knowing when someone cares about them and that what they do matters. It’s not enough to set a mission statement at the start of the year and then forget about it. We need to see it daily and adjust it gradually over time. It’s okay to refine the WHO and HOW components, but the WHY of our mission must be set in stone from the beginning and remain unwavering.

“Your mission, should you choose to accept it, is…”

Use this simple three-step guide to live a Mission-Oriented Life:

  1. WHAT is your mission in life for as long as you live? Define it and have a clear WHY statement.

  2. WHO is it that you will involve or serve in your mission? Be 100% certain and write their names, and have their pictures in front of you daily.

  3. HOW do you plan to achieve your mission? Be specific about the resources, tools, time, and knowledge you have or need to acquire.

That’s it. You now have a straightforward blueprint for spending your days living a quality life with a strong purpose, clarity on the people you need in your life, and concrete action steps to reach your desired outcome. Remember, it might not take a week or even a year in many cases. The journey of being on an important mission is where joy and satisfaction are found. The actual achievement of the mission goal is the cherry on top. Who you become along the way and how you fulfil your role in the grand mission you set for your life is what truly matters.

Live with purpose, and Good Luck on your mission!

Why Playing Small Is A Waste of Your Life

By Ahsan

There are many things that we come across in life that will stop us from achieving our big aspirations.

The circumstances of life and the obstacles we often encounter can instill fear in our hearts, and from that point on, we often start playing small.

Interestingly, for those who observe Ramadan, there is a lesson to embrace life's uncertainties with a bolder mindset.

Ramadan is a special month for Muslims—a time to pause, reflect, and reconnect with what matters most. While fasting is its hallmark, the deeper purpose is spiritual growth, gratitude, and compassion. Even though Ramadan has just past and we are in a new month, there are things worth noting for the rest of the year.

Ramadan is not a single, homogenous experience—it is a shared spiritual month expressed through countless cultures around the world. From bustling night markets in Southeast Asia to quiet family iftars in North Africa, from communal prayers in West Africa to charitable traditions in North America and Europe, Ramadan is shaped by local customs, languages, foods, and histories. While Muslims everywhere are united by fasting, reflection, and generosity, each community brings its own traditions to the observance and celebration of the month. This diversity makes Ramadan not only a time of faith but also one of cultural richness, inclusion, and global connection.

From dawn to sunset, people practice self-discipline not just to go without, but to grow within. The Prophet Muhammad, peace be upon him, described fasting as “a shield,” a way to strengthen character and nurture empathy.

Nelson Mandela once said, “There is no passion to be found in playing small—in settling for a life that is less than the one you are capable of living.”

Ramadan mirrors that calling—to become our best selves through reflection and kindness.

And as Kofi Annan shared, “The holy month of Ramadan calls on us to see our shared humanity and to act with dignity, respect, and understanding.”

That’s the message of Ramadan—and one deeply aligned with the spirit of the human spirit.

Eid marks the joyful conclusion of Ramadan—a time of gratitude, connection, and celebration that brings families, friends, and communities together. We wish all our readers a blessed, healthy and Happy Eid!

The Message of Spring

By Shazad

“Though I do not believe that a plant will spring up where no seed has been, I have great faith in a seed... Convince me that you have a seed there, and I am prepared to expect wonders.”

Henry David Thoreau

Spring is arriving, or about to, in many parts of the world. Blooms will begin to show their beauty, and the earth will burst into vibrant colours and delightful fragrances. This period of change will feel like a rebirth or awakening after a long, cold winter. What can we learn from this in our daily lives?

Just like plants, our lives experience cycles of growth, maturity, and decline. These cycles manifest in various aspects of our lives, including education, careers, and relationships. The seeds we “sow” in one season often yield results in the next. For example, planting tomato seeds won’t magically produce a date palm tree. Similarly, we can’t expect rapid growth or full maturity in a short period.

Nature reminds us that with patience, proper care, and planning, great things appear when the time is right.

We need to consciously think about what seeds we are sowing and how we nurture them.

Here are some Questions to consider for your life:

  1. What were you doing for your relationship in the previous season? Did you ‘plant’ anything new, and did you nurture it over time?

  2. What new things did you learn, and what did you ‘prune’ in your education? A well-maintained garden needs to be managed to prevent weeds from taking over and suffocating the plants you actually want to grow. What information or ideas no longer matter to you?

  3. Are you sharing your ‘garden’ with others, or are you keeping it to yourself? The beauty of nature and plants is inviting the people you care about to enjoy it with you. Share your wisdom and kindness with them often. Don’t be a lonely ‘gardener’ who admires his garden all by himself.

There’s so much to love about spring and life, even if you don’t have a green thumb or passion for nature. Let the beauty of the season inspire you to cultivate better habits and a mindset. Grow your perspective and expand your thinking by getting out into nature more often. When you realize that you are a part of the world and it has lessons to teach you, it becomes impossible not to feel reborn each time spring comes around!

The Two Most Important Ingredients for Success

By Ahsan

“Success is not something you pursue. It’s something you attract by the person you become.”

Jim Rohn

Humans are wired to succeed. Our capacity to adapt, plan, and cooperate has allowed us to dominate the planet and create extraordinary progress.

Yet if success is so natural to us, why do so many people fall short of their potential?

The answer lies in two intertwined forces — behaviour and background. These two ingredients shape how far we go and how fast we get there.

Think for a moment about the people you would call “successful.” They might not all be billionaires or global leaders. Instead, many live balanced lives: they hold steady jobs or businesses, manage their finances wisely, and enjoy strong relationships with family and friends.

They have a sense of purpose, contribute meaningfully to their communities, and maintain optimism about their future.

Those less successful, by contrast, often struggle with instability, both financially and emotionally, and may lack a clear direction or confidence in shaping their lives.

Ingredient One: Behaviour Built on Beliefs

The first ingredient of success is what a person chooses to believe and how those beliefs shape daily behaviour. Success-oriented individuals embody values like discipline, persistence, optimism, and curiosity. They see themselves as works in progress—always learning, improving, and adapting.

“Whether you think you can, or you think you can’t—you’re right.” — Henry Ford

Successful people don’t wait for perfect conditions; they cultivate habits that generate progress.

They organize their time, pursue meaningful goals, and face setbacks as part of the learning process rather than as signs of failure.

Over time, these behaviours compound to create a stable foundation for success.

Ingredient Two: The Fortune of Circumstance

Still, behaviour alone doesn’t explain everything.

Behind every success story lies an invisible backdrop—the circumstances one is born into.

Where you live, the family that raises you, the values you absorb early in life, and the economic conditions that surround you—all shape your sense of possibility.

As researcher Robert Frank notes, “Talent and effort matter, but luck matters as well.”

A nurturing environment can accelerate your growth, while difficult beginnings can make the journey longer if not elusive.

Yet awareness of this second ingredient isn’t meant to discourage—it’s meant to empower.

When we recognize how background influences outcomes, we can consciously create better starting points for ourselves and others.

The Takeaway: Build Both Sides of the Equation

If you’re raising children, fuel both their beliefs and their base. Give them empowering ideas about effort, persistence, and purpose, but also strive to provide stability and opportunity—the soil in which confidence can grow.

If you’re an adult still writing your story of success, it’s not too late.

You can re-parent yourself—by installing new beliefs, upgrading your habits, and seeking circumstances that match your ambitions.

“It is never too late to be what you might have been.” — George Eliot

In the end, success is neither luck alone nor willpower alone. It’s the creative partnership between who you are and where you are.

If it matters to you, you might like to master your behaviours, improve your conditions, and you’ll expand what’s possible in both.

So how successful do you think you can be? Let’s get Cooking!

You Are NOT Your Job

By Shazad

“The purpose of life is a life of purpose.”

Robert Byrne

To say the world of business is tough is a huge understatement. Many people are afraid of losing their job or have already lost one, and they are scrambling to find another. It’s stressful and confusing out there, and all this talk of AI replacing jobs makes it even more chaotic. What we do in our work or business often ends up defining us in ways we don’t realise. We sometimes think that we were born only to work, create, and manage a business, but not much else. I’m going to explain why life can be much more like a creative adventure than just a routine of 9-5 duties.

I need to start by saying I know what it’s like to lose a job due to companies changing direction, downsizing, or reorganizing their staff and resources. I’ve experienced it twice already, and it’s no fun. Both times, it shocked me, and I had to step back and evaluate my life and consider my next steps. I had, and still have, a family to support, and I’m far too young to retire, not to mention the lack of funds to do so. I found myself knocked down, but I managed to get back up and look on the bright side. You can do the same.

I began by feeling grateful for the great experiences I had and the long tenure at both companies I worked for. I had excellent managers, role models, and supportive peers who helped shape my career and encouraged my growth. My work environment wasn’t perfect, but it was a fantastic learning laboratory, full of experimentation and collaboration. I enjoyed many aspects of working life, and I think it’s essential to start from what was good about the situation as we move forward.

Being without work in both cases felt like I was cast out of something great—like I was no longer needed for a roadmap. This was partly true, and I embraced that feeling to allow myself to experience the emotional pain of loss and separation from the familiar routine and the people I worked with. Now, I began planning my new growth phase. I realised I now had time to pursue projects, training, and personal development that I had been delaying due to full-time work commitments. I treated my transition from one job to the next as a well-deserved sabbatical to figure things out. I asked myself: What am I most interested in learning next? Who am I becoming in this new phase of life? What is my ideal next role and company? Should I start a side hustle or a business and grow it in the meantime? Suddenly, I was filled with excitement for a future I had only imagined, but now it felt within reach.

I gave myself permission to dream, create, and diversify because I was no longer bound by an office clock. Don’t get me wrong—I was still polishing my online profile, updating and tailoring my resume, and actively applying for interesting positions. But I also dedicated some time each day to visualizing success and a different routine at a new organization. I even considered alternative but related roles I could be suited for.

The key point I want to make is that I didn’t wallow in sadness or despair. I didn’t give up or simply send out resumes mechanically, clicking ‘apply’ on every job I saw. Instead, I curated my days and nights to something better. I found meaning in a different routine and realized I’m not just a ‘worker’ or employee—I’m a human being who has done meaningful work and will continue to find ways to do even more meaningful work in the future, God willing!

Once we take stock of our skills, life experiences, tastes, and future plans, we see that we’re not here just to work, pay bills, and sleep. We can create a richer life by consciously engaging in what we enjoy and recognizing our capabilities. We’re not limited to a job title or a trendy phrase describing our work. We can—and should—evolve ourselves, constantly pushing the edges of the kind of work we do and the person we’re becoming. This is where true growth happens, whether you’ve lost your job or are about to.

Before you find yourself collecting employment insurance, reflect on what you know, what you desire, and what you’ve always wanted to become. How does your current role or business support you, and how might it be holding you back? If you’ve already lost your job, I encourage you to do the same quickly, because time is short.

Get up, get back into your ‘fighting shape’ or a better position, and go out there with your head held high. Find the next challenge to solve, a community to serve, and a place to grow. You are so much more than some kind of ‘cog’ in a machine. You are a unique individual with talents, relationships, proven results, and incredible stories of how you’ve reached where you are today. Make the most of your life as a person and find a place where you can make an even greater impact than before. You’ve got this!

You Can’t Manage Time — Only Yourself: Why 100% Commitment Changes Everything

By Ahsan

“Until you value yourself, you won’t value your time. Until you value your time, you will not do anything with it.”

M. Scott Peck

We blame our inbox, our calendar, even our team. But the hard truth is this: you can’t really manage much outside of yourself. You manage your choices, your focus, your commitment.

Commitment isn’t about working harder — it’s about deciding who’s really in charge of your results. You can’t manage your boss, your clients, or your schedule. The only thing you truly manage is yourself!

And that’s where 100% commitment makes all the difference.

Here’s why going all-in on your work — not halfway, not “almost there” — turns ordinary effort into extraordinary impact.

1. Commitment Turns Goals into Reality

A leader who’s fully committed doesn’t wait for motivation — they create it. When your team sees that level of ownership, they rise with you.

As Peter Drucker said, “The best way to predict the future is to create it.”

Commitment is the bridge between intentions and achievements. It tells your team, “I’m not testing this out — I’m in for real.” That confidence is contagious.

2. Focus Fuels Productivity

When you decide to be all-in, distractions lose their power. Your priorities get sharper, your progress faster.

As Stephen Covey wrote, “The main thing is to keep the main thing the main thing.”

Partial effort always leads to partial results. Full focus multiplies output — one small win at a time.

3. Passion Comes from Purpose

It’s easy to lose excitement when work feels endless. But if you reconnect with why you started, commitment reignites your fire. Passion isn’t found — it’s grown through consistent follow-through.

When your purpose and actions line up, others can feel it. That kind of authenticity builds trust and loyalty that no marketing ever could.

4. Tough Times Test True Commitment

Every worthwhile goal hits rough weather. Commitment is what keeps you steady. It’s grit, not luck, that brings results.

Viktor Frankl, who endured unthinkable hardship, said, “When we are no longer able to change a situation, we are challenged to change ourselves.”

Challenges reveal character — and commitment builds it.

5. The All-In Difference

Being 99% committed sounds impressive — but that last 1% is where excuses live.

True freedom comes from total decision: “This is who I am and what I do.”

Once you remove hesitation, momentum takes over. You stop negotiating with yourself, and your energy shifts from “should I?” to “how will I?”

The Takeaway

100% commitment isn’t about control — it’s about responsibility. You can’t manage your team, the economy, or the market. But you can always manage yourself: your focus, your follow-through, your attitude.

So, here’s your challenge:

Pick one area of your life or work where you’ve been 99% committed — and go all in.

Decide. Commit.

Follow through.

Because when you manage yourself with that level of conviction, everything else starts to follow.

The Grand Conclusion

Being 100% committed to your work is not just about completing tasks; it's about investing in yourself, your team, and your vision.

Commitment leads to better results, stronger connections, and a fulfilling life.

Remember, success is not for those who are "almost" committed; it's reserved for those who are truly dedicated and persistent.

You Don’t Need To Be a Monk to go into “Monk Mode”

By Shazad

“O ye who believe! Fasting is prescribed for you as it was prescribed for those before you,

so that you may become righteous.”

The Holy Quran (Ch. 2:V.184)

It’s the start of Ramadhan again all over the world. Over a billion Muslims will be participating in this holy month at the same time and will seem to have become a kind of ascetic or “monk”. The term Monk Mode is becoming a trendy phrase in wellness circles. It is commonly defined as a temporary, high-discipline protocol designed to maximize productivity and achieve specific, intense goals by eliminating distractions. It involves adopting strict routines, such as daily meditation or prayers, exercise, or deep work, while cutting out non-essential activities for weeks or months at a time. There is no prescription for a monastic lifestyle in Islam; however, each Ramadhan sees a large number of Muslims observing their own version of ‘monk mode’ for this lunar month, called Ramadhan, which lasts 29 or 30 days.  I will explain some key aspects of this month and the benefits for a person living in the modern world, regardless of whether you are a Muslim or not.

Every Muslim man or woman who is considered an adult and is healthy (e.g., not on prescription medications) is instructed to observe the daily fasting window from about 1 hour before sunrise to sunset each day. It’s a challenging “Dry Fast” in which no food or drink of any kind is permitted. Each day is a kind of ‘marathon’ from before dawn to exactly dusk, when the fast ends with a simple meal. This offers relief to those who observe fasting as it should be done. Science tells us there are great medical benefits for the mind and body related to fasting. History confirms that many cultures of the world used to fast, and some still do so today, so it’s not a fad or Internet trend like many other things.

Besides food and drink, Muslims are encouraged to give up every non-essential activity, quarrels, socializing, and bad habits, during the entire month. This is a form of training for believers who want to experience their own transformation of the mind, body, and soul. A practicing Muslim seeks nearness to his Creator and self-purification by withdrawing from much of the noise, distraction, and nonsense of the world. Muslims are not required to leave their jobs or school obligations during Ramadhan. They are also not shunning non-Muslims or the world entirely. There is no point in a Muslim’s life when he must sever all ties with the world or reject modern living and its conveniences. Ramadhan is the closest thing to this, and it simply involves withdrawing into a quieter personal space to reflect, pray more, rest, and give thanks for all the blessings in life. The fasting Muslim seeks a higher level of spiritual awareness during and at the end of Ramadhan through these daily practices based on simplicity, self-discipline, and gratitude.

I’ve found that I can reach a higher level of productivity at my job and that I have greater clarity during my university days whenever Ramadhan falls during the school year. I experienced some hunger and thirst, and even tiredness at the end of each day, but I also learned to cultivate more patience, gratitude, and resilience during and after Ramadhan. Looking back, it was great training for life, as the month of Ramadhan shaped my habits and personality over the long run. This blessed month and it’s practices encouraged me to be more generous in giving my time and money to charity as well as having more empathy towards the poor, needy, less fortunate, and those who are lost in life. I have developed a greater appreciation for their suffering and pain.

You don’t have to be a very spiritual person or a Muslim to experience what I and 100s of Millions of other Muslims experience each year. You do need a plan, an intention, and some daily habits that pull you in the direction you want your life to go. No one can “push” us into a more conscious or balanced way of living. We have to be drawn to it and pursue our own path of enlightenment and wisdom. Only then is lasting human transformation and spiritual elevation possible.

We all need to step back from the world and look inward with greater attention, reducing distractions.  Only then can we connect to something greater than repetitive tasks and meaningless work.  We can better understand ourselves, our world, and our place in it.  I send my sincerest Ramadhan Kareem and blessings to all those who are seeking the blessings of Ramadhan or simply a more meaningful life. May you find the best of what you are seeking during this month and every time you stop and reflect on your life.

Why Successful Living Is Easy to Understand but Hard to Do!

By Ahsan

“Success is nothing more than a few simple disciplines, practiced every day.” >> Jim Rohn

What is a life of success?

Is it about having all the finest things—or is it about being fine in mind, body, and spirit?

To me, it’s a blend of both: having some fine things and being fine with things.

True success isn’t measured by wealth alone but by the peace and purpose that come from growth, contribution, and self-respect.

Society tells us we should live successfully—but when you look around, how many people truly are?

The truth is, what others are doing isn’t as important as what you choose to do.

So what can you do to live as successfully as you define it?

The Advisor Within

Imagine having a personal advisor to illuminate your path to success. You’d probably notice that their focus wouldn’t be on your circumstances, but on your beliefs and habits.

Why? Because all beliefs and habits carry consequences.

As human beings, we think constantly—from the moment we wake up until our heads hit the pillow. Those thoughts create feelings, and our feelings drive our actions (or inactions). When you feel relaxed and confident, productivity flows. But when you’re tense or overwhelmed, you tend to avoid the very things that would move you forward.

The Power of “Easy”

Here’s the paradox of success: most of what leads to it is easy to do… and easy not to do.

Taking a 30-minute walk after dinner? Easy to do, and easy not to do.

Doing one good deed each day? Easy to do, and easy not to do.

Reading about a skill you want to improve for just 10 minutes a day? Easy to do, and easy not to do.

Jim Rohn once said, “Discipline is the bridge between goals and accomplishment.”

That bridge is built on small, simple, consistent actions.

Here’s a pro tip: throughout your day, pause and reflect on the phrase “easy to do.” Ask yourself whether you’re choosing the easy things that build success—or the easy things that destroy it.

And another phrase to ponder: “How bad do I want it?”

Your answer will help you focus on the simple, valuable habits that shape your life every single day.

The Art of Self-Management

Your success is about managing yourself—your thoughts, feelings, and actions.

Time management, after all, is really self-management. You can’t control time, but you can control what you do with it.

Ask yourself: “What’s the best use of my time right now?”

Because success isn’t a mystery—it’s a matter of making the best use of the time and abilities you already have.

As Jim Rohn wisely put it, “Don’t wish it were easier, wish you were better.”

When you desire growth as much as comfort, progress becomes natural.

Enjoy the Ride!

If these words serve as a gentle reminder—wonderful. If not, it might be time to make a few changes.

Do something different … for a change! Literally!

Start that after-dinner walking habit—25 minutes minimum on any evening warmer than -6°C.

Get After It!

Most people don’t do the simple things that make the greatest difference.

Remember, life can be viewed in two ways:

You can stand at a distance watching the roller coaster twist and turn… or you can be seated on the ride—feeling every climb, drop, and thrill as it comes.

Choose to ride.

Choose to engage!

Choose to live in the EXPERIENCE!

Watching from a distance is easy to do—but so is living with purpose, passion, and persistence.

Your journey begins today—so take one small “easy to do” action toward the life you truly want.

Build A System for Goals

By Shazad

“If you can’t describe what you are doing as a process, you don’t know what you’re doing.” >> W. Edwards Deming

We all have goals we want to achieve. We want to accomplish big goals and reach milestones in life, whether that means completing higher education, getting married, raising kids, or starting a business. All of us strive for some significant outcome in life, and we think we just need to “do some things” to get to our destination. What if there was a better way? A proven method for actually getting things done that wasn’t just a bunch of loosely connected tasks?

The better way, and the only way to properly achieve a desired outcome that is even slightly complex or large, is to use the Systems approach. By studying how various elements in our personal lives and professional domains are connected, we can better understand the right process to achieve the results we want. We can avoid just doing ‘busy work’ or garbage tasks that either don’t matter or, even worse, break things in the process and put us further behind than when we started!

Everything in nature follows a systematic pattern, a clue that becomes evident as we observe plants, animals, and even the solar system. Things don’t just happen in the world around us. They follow certain guidelines, formulas, and natural laws, and often move gradually through time and space.

Getting in shape is a popular goal many people pursue, and it’s a great example of using a systematic approach to improving fitness rather than just adopting ‘better habits’ or doing a bunch of things every day. If you examine what’s getting in the way of achieving your ideal health and what’s available to help you improve, you start seeing things clearly. You can look at potential hurdles or dead ends in the process of improving your physical fitness, nutrition, and mental well-being. You choose how you are going to optimize daily choices and connect the dots. You see the bigger picture of your overall process to improve the key aspects of your well-being. Once you see the connection between your physical exercise and daily nutrition and your mental state, you make better choices to keep everything aligned. You also don’t aim for simplistic metrics like ‘lose some weight’ or ‘lift more at the gym’. By getting specific with your overall goals and breaking them down into daily and weekly progress, you can see how you are doing and where you can make small but meaningful adjustments to keep moving forward.

With a systems approach to a big goal or project, you are more likely to hit the target because you see how your time, resources, mindset, and daily choices affect your outcomes. You become better at forming and maintaining habits because they are small parts of the bigger machine you have built to take you where you need to go. What’s the next goal you will apply a system to?

How To Uncomplicate Your Life

By Ahsan

"The only thing that can ever change your experience is your thinking."

Sydney Banks

Have you ever found yourself frustrated by something inconsequential, such as a slow driver in front of you, a family member's unexpected behaviour, or the overwhelming weight of an ever-growing to-do list? This added stress and the ensuing drama create unnecessary complications in life that are often self-imposed.

What if I told you that the same trivial situations could be approached with grace and ease?

Imagine living each day feeling lighter and more fulfilled—with the ability to respond to life's challenges without emotional turmoil. This is achievable when you comprehend how your emotional reactions and experiences are shaped by your thoughts in the moment.

When something bothers you, the discomfort you feel does not stem from the action itself but arises from your thinking about that action.

The negative emotions, ruminations, and prolonged distress are the results of your mental interpretation. Here’s the key insight: our experience of life is a unique interpretation, entirely derived from our thoughts.

Next time you find yourself irritated, try to remember that the source of your upset lies not with the other person or the situation but in your own thinking about it.

This is 100% true because not everyone is as upset as you are about whatever is upsetting you. Some people look at slow drivers and never get upset.

As you begin to recognize the rule of your thinking, you'll realize that altering your perspective—even slightly—can shift your emotions correspondingly. When your thoughts change, your feelings follow suit.

This revelation highlights an essential aspect of human functioning: we all possess the gift of thought, conscious awareness, and a mind capable of seeking solutions. Our ability to think gives rise to wisdom, while our conscious awareness allows us to observe our experiences within a broader perspective.

Understanding that your thinking directly impacts your feelings can be transformative.

If you can let go of incessant personal thoughts, you create space to experience the current situation with clarity and awareness.

This understanding leads to emotional liberation. As you develop this awareness, you may find it easier to sidestep negative feelings caused by others or by circumstances.

Remember, your feelings are not dictated by external events but by your internal dialogue, which, in other words, is your internal thinking.

With this new lens, you can navigate life without believing that your well-being hinges on others' actions or on perfect situations you insist on.

After all, “life is like a box of chocolates”.

Embracing this understanding can significantly simplify your life. You will no longer attribute your happiness or mental well-being to external factors, but rather recognize that you have the power to control your thoughts and feelings.

As you grow in this understanding, life will become less complicated, and you will begin to appreciate the beauty of living in the moment.

In Summary: Take a moment to reflect on the insights shared in this article. The journey to an uncomplicated life begins here and now.

Embrace the power of your thinking and reduce unnecessary stress. Make a commitment today to nurture a clearer mind and, in doing so, transform your everyday experience into something truly extraordinary.

Call to Action

Start observing your thoughts and how they affect your feelings. Engage in this practice daily, and over time, share your discoveries with others.

Together, we can foster a better world anchored in this understanding and wisdom, freeing ourselves from unnecessary complications.

Don't let another moment pass; begin your journey toward uncomplicating your life today!
